THE
STORY
1926. The Chinese Civil War. Ted Beaubien is captured and forced
to witness his girlfriend's execution. He vows to avenge her death
by taking on a deadly mission to buy guns abroad and smuggle them
back to the Chinese rebels. Arriving in his hometown, Ted is shocked
to find his mother has died and younger brother penniless. But
time is running out, and before he can help his brother, he must
secure a shipment of guns. In setting up the deal, Ted meets and
falls for the seductive nightclub owner Maude Ryan who introduces
him to the treacherous gangsters who will sell him the artillery.
The dark, decadent underworld of Montreal is the backdrop for
this tale of deceit, intrigue and murder. The more Ted struggles
to remain true to himself, the deeper he becomes enmeshed in a
tangled web of corruption. He soon finds himself player, pawn
and victim of a much larger power struggle.

COMMENTS
" Though The Gunrunner was a fun shoot it unfortunately did
not turn out very well even though it stars Kevin Costner. It
was just before he hit the big time and I bet he wishes he'd never
done it. Where as for me it was my second feature film and I was
thrilled to be working again so soon after finishing the Tin Flute.
It was also a period piece and I loved it. Most of the costumes
were rented from a Hollywood studio and one of the suits I wore
was warn by Jimmy Cagney..."
